Things are heating up in the flagship space as Oppo unveils the Find X8 series. These are flagships with special attention to the camera (with help from Hasselblad). This year there’s even a camera shutter key and the Alert slider is back (both only on the Pro model).
The Oppo Find X8 Pro is not a direct sequel to the Find X7 Ultra (there may be an X8 Ultra later). So instead of a curved screen, it has an almost flat micro-quad-curved 6.78” LTPO panel (1264p+, 120 Hz, 10-bit color). It is powered by the Size 9400 chipset and a massive 5,910mAh battery (with 80W wired and 50W wireless charging).
The main camera has a 50 MP 1/1.4” LYT-808 sensor, which is larger than what the vanilla X8 has to work with. There is also a 3x telephoto and a 120° ultra-wide angle. The Pro model also has a periscope lens – 135mm (6x). All cameras have 50MP sensors.
The Oppo Find X8 is smaller than both the X8 Pro and the X7. Note: smaller, not small. After all, it has a 6.59” display and an LTPO panel (120Hz, 10-bit). This model is also powered by the Dimensity 9400 and an impressive 5,630mAh battery (80W wired, 50W wireless charging). As mentioned above, the triple 50MP camera (main, 3x telephoto and ultra-wide) contains a smaller sensor in the main mode, but the 3x and ultra-wide modules are the same. The big difference is the lack of a periscope lens on this one.
The Find X7 was a bit disappointing with its IP65 rating for dust and water resistance. This year Oppo has gone all out and both X8 models are rated IP68 and IP69 (the latter is for resistance to hot water jets, in case you want to rinse your phone more aggressively).
The Oppo Find X8 Pro starts at CNY 5,300 ($745) for a 12/256GB model, while the base price of the Oppo Find
Let’s look at some competition. The vivo X200 and X200 Pro went on sale last week. The vanilla model costs CNY 4,300 for a 12/256 GB model, which is essentially the same as the X8. The X200 series also uses the Dimensity 9400 and is IP68/IP69 rated. The vanilla X200 doesn’t have an LTPO screen (it’s a 6.67-inch OLED panel, 1260p+, 120 Hz, 10-bit). The camera setup is similar to the Find X8. The battery is larger at 5,800 mAh, but only supports wired charging (90W).
The vivo X200 Pro costs CNY 5,300 (matching the X8 Pro) for a 12/256 GB phone. This has an LTPO display and while there’s no second telephoto module, the 3.7x lens on this one is supported by an impressive 200MP sensor for extra zoom. The 6,000mAh battery supports both 90W wired and 30W wireless charging.
vivo X200 • vivo X200 Pro • vivo X200 Pro mini
There is also a vivo X200 Pro mini (CNY 4,700 for 12/256 GB), which was launched this Friday. It’s essentially a smaller version of the Pro. With a 6.31” LTPO screen, it is 71.8mm wide and weighs 187 grams. The battery is slightly smaller, but still powerful at 5,700 mAh (90W/30W charging). The only real downgrade here is that the telephoto camera has a 3x lens and a 50 MP sensor.
We don’t know which vivo X200 models will be available globally, but Oppo has confirmed that the Find X8 series will be available everywhere. There is a version of the Find X8 Pro with satellite communications, but it will probably not be available outside China.
The OnePlus 13 will be unveiled on October 31 (Thursday) and it’s confirmed to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, plus triple 50MP camerasincluding the same LYT-808 sensor as the Find X8 Pro. However, there’s no word yet on the price.
Snapdragon 8 Elite phones are on their way
There are also the Xiaomi 15 series (with Snapdragon 8 Elite), which will be officially unveiled on October 29. The Honor Magic7 series (expected next week) is also confirmed to use the Qualcomm chip, just like the Realme GT7 Pro (coming later this month).
We don’t have the full picture of what Xiaomi, Honor and Realme are cooking up, but as we said in the opening paragraph, things are heating up in the flagship space.
But going back to the Oppo phones, what do you think about buying an Oppo Find X8 Pro?
What about the vanilla Oppo Find X8?
