The vivoV40 is already selling in Europe and we finally have one in stock to review. The phone shares a lot with its six-month-old predecessor, but has been upgraded to a 5,500 mAh battery and has a camera infused with know-how from Zeiss.
The vivo V40 we have is the Nebula Purple version, which feels nice in the hand. However, we were disappointed that it didn’t come with a charger in the box. So if you want to use the phone’s 80W wired charger, you’ll need to provide the necessary charger yourself.
The V40’s design is sure to be polarizing, with its unusual camera island. The same goes for the unusual finish of the back, which feels somewhere between sand and satin.
Upfront is a beautiful 6.78” AMOLED with curved sides. In a world of flat bezels and panels, fans of curved displays don’t have many options these days, so they should appreciate this one.
The 120Hz display looks bright, but the 4,500 nits mentioned in the official specs probably aren’t actually achievable in real life – we’ll be sure to check. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset apparently does a great job, and the phone feels very responsive in these first minutes.
The vivo V40 has dual 50 MP cameras on the back – a main camera with a 1/1.56″ sensor and an ultra-wide camera with a 1/2.76 imager. We’ll know how they perform once we’re done with the review.
The Aura Light is a signature feature of the series at this point, but we’ll have to wait and see whether the new shape of the camera island affects its performance.
The vivo V40 starts at €500 and the hardware seems to match the price well. We’ll have to wait and see if the performance is as good in real life.
