Samsung has long been rumored to be working on a pair XR glassesand today a new report from Korea says we can expect these to be unveiled in prototype form from the Launch of the Galaxy S25 in January.

So the glasses will not be ready for immediate sale to consumers. Not only that, but apparently there won’t even be prototypes to play with at the event – according to the report, the glasses will be shown “in the form of a video or image.”

So more of a teaser then, similar to what happened with the Galaxy Ring at Unpacked in January this year. The smart ring it was then going to be fully announced in July.

And would you believe it – according to “the industry” the final XR glasses will hit the market in the third quarter of next year, i.e. from July to September. So it certainly seems like Samsung is repeating its own strategy here.

Samsung’s glasses are said to weigh just 50 grams and look like typical glasses. They will have a payment feature (somehow), use AI (of course), and include both facial recognition (presumably for those payments) and gesture recognition (ostensibly to navigate the UI). The glasses have been developed since February 2023 in collaboration with both Google and Qualcomm.

Ahead of their unveiling, the company is expected to announce its XR software platform for the first time, which should happen by the end of this month.
