With the Galaxy S series now outselling its predecessors, Samsung has big ambitions for its 2024 foldable phones: the Z Flip6 and Galaxy Z Fold6.

All rumors suggest we’re in for the biggest lineup overhaul yet, and the book-style foldable will be the star. Here’s what we know so far.

It will be launched in July

Samsung launches the Galaxy Z Fold6 alongside the Galaxy Z Flip6, the new Galaxy Watch7 series and the new Galaxy Ring on July 10.

This is a continuation of the trend Samsung has previously shown with its foldable Galaxy devices: the Galaxy Z Fold4 was released in late August, while the Z Fold5 came out in early August.

The Galaxy Z Fold6 seems like a minor upgrade. It looks nearly identical to its predecessor, though it could tweak the display aspect ratios a bit and thinner and lighter.

We’re expecting an upgrade to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, and we expect that to be the chipset on all Galaxy Z Fold6s globally. There could also be an increase in battery capacity.

The Galaxy Z Fold6 will likely be the exactly the same camera setting as the Galaxy Z Fold5. That means a 50MP 1/1.56″ ISOCELL GN3 wide-angle camera is joined by 10MP 1/3.94″ 3x zoom and 12MP 1/3.06″ ultra-wide cameras. A 10MP 1/3″ punch hole selfie camera and a 16MP 1/3″ under-display selfie camera complete the list.

A Galaxy Z Fold6 Ultra is not coming yet

For the first time, Samsung will be splitting the Galaxy Z Fold series in two. It was unclear for a while whether we’d be getting a regular Fold and a cheaper Fold, or a Fold and a Fold Ultra, but it now seems clear that a The more expensive Galaxy Z Fold6 Ultra is comingHowever, it’s more likely to launch alongside the Galaxy S25 in early 2025.

Most credible reports suggest a thinner and lighter Galaxy Z Fold6 Ultra with a better camera setup. It’s likely that the Ultra will get the 200MP ISOCEL HP2 camera of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, but nothing is known yet about the rest of the camera setup.

The other rumors point to a thinner and lighter Galaxy Z Fold6 Ultra. It reportedly weighs 239 grams, which is significantly lower than the Fold5’s 253 grams. Moreover, the Ultra is can use titaniumas in the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The Ultra Fold is just 5.6mm thick when unfolded and 12.1mm when folded, down from the 6.1mm and 13.4mm thicknesses of the current Fold5.

A cheaper Galaxy Z Fold6 is not coming

For a while now, we’ve been hearing rumors about a Galaxy Z Fold6 FE that will be significantly cheaper than the current Z Fold5. That’s not likely.

New design with thinner frame and wider cover view

Samsung tweaks the Galaxy Z Fold’s design a little every year, but it’s been too conservative and has fallen behind the competition lately. Last year, we got a phone with a flat clasp and a tiny bit of widening of the aspect ratio.

This year we hear of more substantial changes. We already mentioned the thinner frame, which is expected to be a 11mm folded Galaxy Z Fold6.

Early renders introduced a device that looked nearly identical to the Galaxy Z Fold5, but with flatter, sharper sides.

Those renders also had dimensions – 153.5 x 132.5 x 6.1 mm. That’s a few mm off the other, more recent report of an expanded thickness of 5.6mm. CAD renders the 6.1mm profile, but this could be a difference in models – Z Fold6 vs Z Fold6 Ultra.
