OmniVision announced its latest 50MP OV50M40 sensor, intended for use in main, ultra-wide, telephoto, or front-facing smartphone cameras. The 0.61µm pixel CMOS image sensor comes in a 1/2.88-inch optical format and features 4-cell binning, video HDR, and always-on motion detection and ultra-low power.

It supports graduated HDR and single exposure dual analog gain (DAG) HDR technology, phase detection autofocus (PDAF) for both binned and full resolution modes. It offers high-performance telephoto crop zoom with 2x or 3x options.

OV50M40 is built on OmniVision’s PureCel Plus-S stacked-die technology with support for full 50MP resolution images at 12 fps, and 12.5MP images at 60 fps. It is also capable of shooting 4K video at 60 fps and 1080p video at 120 fps.

The OV50M40 will be available for OEM sampling in Q3, 2024, with mass production planned for Q4.
