LG Innotek will provide the entire initial supply of telephoto camera sensors for the iPhone 16 Pro phones.
According to a report from media outlet The Elec, the Korean component maker has received the full order for the first batch of folded-zoom modules, and the company will also supply the OIS actuator in collaboration with Jahwa Electronics.
Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max and its 5x Tetraprism camera
Initial orders for telephoto camera sensors for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are “well over half,” with some reports suggesting it represents around 70% of all forecast sales. The remainder of the sensors will be produced by Foxconn and Cowell in Q4 2024 as Apple attempts to bring down average costs.
LG Innotek was the sole supplier of modules for the iPhone 15 Pro Max last year. Sharp was expected to join the mix this year, but the Japanese company pulled out, the report added. This year, both the Pro and Pro Max will get the Tetraprism camera, which offers 5x optical zoom.
