During the day my explorations of the history of the scrapyardI have written about discarded Volvo station wagons go back to mid sixtiesThe last Gothenburg cars with brick shapes and rear-wheel drive were sold in the United States as models from 1998but the new century brought us a lot of curvy, long-roofed, front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive Volvos, many of which were built with manual transmissions. Here’s one of those cars: a 2006 V50 T5 AWD with a manual six-speed transmission, found in a junkyard in the Denver area.

The V50 was the station wagon version of the S40 sedan. Sales in the United States began with the 2005 model and it was discontinued after 2011.

The base 2006 V50 had a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter inline-five, but this car is a T5 and has the 2.5-liter turbocharged version with 218 hp and 236 lb-ft.

A six-speed manual was the base transmission, but of course most American V50 buyers opted for the five-speed automatic. That wasn’t the case with this car, which must have been fun to drive in the snow.

The last year for a three-pedal Volvo in the United States was 2013.

There is some damage to the bodywork, but the interior is in good condition. We can assume that an expensive mechanical problem sent this car here.

Like many Denver cars, this one has stickers from a Colorado brewery.

There are also some pitbull stickers on it.

It takes you to the city of trust.
