Apple announces the iPhone 16 series on September 9thand a new rumor claims that all four models will get 8GB of RAM. Unlike the iPhone 17 family next year the version with 12 GB RAM will be released.
That’s quite a leap and it all apparently has to do with AI – this time the Apple Intelligence The features will be largely cloud-based, but once the iPhone 17 models launch, there will be a lot more AI on the device, which will require more RAM.
Google has already increased the RAM of its devices with the Pixel 9 family that launched earlier this month, and it even uses a chunk of RAM just for AI applications and nothing else.
So while Apple has traditionally equipped its iPhones with far less RAM than the Android competition, that looks set to change in 2025 thanks to AI. That is, of course, if this rumor comes to fruition.
