The iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Slim (which will replace the Plus model because it doesn’t sell well at all), iPhone 17 ProAnd iPhone 17 Pro Max will all get significant display upgrades next year, according to Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants.
Young says that the iPhone 17 will finally get a 120Hz refresh rate and an LTPO OLED panel, meaning the refresh rate can be varied down to very low values, potentially even as low as 1Hz. This has been a long time coming, as Apple is still, even with the iPhone 16 familymaintains a high refresh rate for the Pro models.
In addition to the iPhone 17, the iPhone 17 Slim also gets 120Hz and LTPO, though in this case it’s less of a surprise since the thinness makes it something of a halo product (or at least Apple hopes it is). You can’t have a phone without such a basic, advanced feature like this.
The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will reportedly feature under-display Face ID. This has been rumored for a long time, and now it seems we’re less than a year away from its actual market launch. This means the Dynamic Island could go away, or at least change accordingly, as the notch in the display will be much smaller and will only house the selfie camera. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will therefore look a lot more like today’s flagship Android devices.
