Huawei today introduced three new wearables. The event in Barcelona also saw the start of the global rollout of two tablets to the international audience – the MatePad Pro 12.2 and MatePad 12 X, which have been available in China for a few months now.

The MatePad Pro 12.2 has a dual-layer OLED and a massive 10,100mAh battery with 100W wired charging, while the 12 X is sold in China as MatePad Air and, interestingly, has the same battery as its Pro sibling.

The MatePad Pro supports a keyboard and a stylus. Unlike its larger 13.2-inch sibling, which is due to launch in late 2023, it doesn’t need a notch for the selfie camera and facial recognition software; it has a beautiful 12.2-inch display with a resolution of 2,800 x 1,840px.

The MatePad 12 X, and also the Pro, have a PaperMatte layer on top of the display. It simulates the texture of paper, with the aim of improving performance for “young makers”, and it’s also easy on the eyes.

Huawei UK is bundling the tablet with a cover keyboard. Users can purchase the device directly from Huawei’s store already, and anyone who orders before October 22 will also receive a 3rd-gen Huawei M Pencil for free and a £100 coupon.

The MatePad 12 X comes in a similar bundle – keyboard for everyone in the UK and M-Pencil for orders placed until October 22. The price here is €849 / £550 for a black or white tablet with 256GB of storage, and €999 for the 512GB version with the PaperMatte display.
