Google started shipping the Wear OS 5 update for the original Pixel watch and the Pixel watch 2 back in September. However, shortly after the rollout began, many people reported a very annoying problem with these older watches: after the update, the watch would get stuck on a blank screen.
Google listened to all reports and halted the rollout of the update on September 26, but only confirmed this today in an announcement on the support pages for the Pixel Watch line.
The company says it plans to resume the Wear OS 5 rollout for the Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 “later this year” once it has “fixed the perceived issues.” Unfortunately, that doesn’t sound like the update re-release will happen anytime soon.
So if you own a Pixel Watch or Pixel Watch 2 and are looking forward to running Wear OS 5 on it, you’ll have to wait a little longer, it seems.
