The plug-in hybrid powertrain inaugurated by the 2025 Bentley Continental GT Speed will soon be included in the company’s product range in early 2024. Bentley confirmed that the system will power the updated version Flying track which is expected to premiere later this year.
It doesn’t seem like much will change as the powertrain makes the transition from the Continental GT Speed to the Flying Spur. It’s still built around a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, and it’s rated at around 771 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. Bentley points out that hybrid will give the next Flying Spur a power increase of almost 150bhp over the outgoing model, although weight will inevitably increase too.
On a full charge, the Flying Spur can travel over 45 miles on electricity. With a full charge and a full tank, it offers over 500 miles of range. It should be seriously quick too, thanks in part to the instant torque provided by the electric motor.
The preview image that Bentley released does a good job of hiding the overall design of the next Flying Spur. We can see updated lights with a jewel-like look and a reshaped lower bumper with smaller air vents. All in all, it seems like we’re looking at a comprehensively updated car rather than one that’s completely new. The company followed the same formula for the Continental GT, claiming that 68% of the coupe’s components are new.
It’s fair to assume the 2025 Flying Spur will also feature improvements inside the cabin, including new tech. And there’s no word yet on whether it will be hybrid-only or if another, non-electrified powertrain will be available. With the mighty 6.0-liter W12 no longer in the pictureThe current Flying Spur features a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine or a plug-in hybrid system built around a 2.9-litre turbocharged V6 engine.
According to Bentley, more details about the next Flying Spur will be released “in due course”.
