AFFALTERBACH, Germany – The completion of the Mercedes reveals of Monterey Car Week (although it was broadcast in Germany), is another special version of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 race carThe Edition 130Y Motorsport is a special track car based on the competition vehicle and celebrates more than a century (130 years) since Mercedes first entered a motor race. However, because the car was not built to compete professionally, Mercedes-AMG was able to ignore a number of restrictions to produce the fastest version of the car possible, and the last of the naturally aspirated versions of the car.
The 6.3-liter V8 has no intake restrictions and gets a unique exhaust system. This ensures AMG to extract 671 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque. Power still goes to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential transmission. The aerodynamics have been changed, with a new front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, fender louvers and underbody panels, plus a wider rear wing. All of this improves downforce by 15 percent over the competition car. But the Edition 130Y also benefits from a drag reduction system (DRS) that lowers the wing flap and adjusts the underbody flaps to enable a top speed of more than 196 mph. The aerodynamics return to normal if the car senses deceleration or lateral acceleration. Finally, AMG has fitted carbon ceramic brakes with six-piston brake calipers at the front and four-piston brake calipers at the rear. The GT3 class requires steel brake discs, which are heavier.
The 130Y is also visually impressive. The color scheme is inspired by a 1952 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLalso pictured in the gallery. And it’s teamed with some great blue and white checked fabric upholstery. The tops of the racing buckets are finished in tan leather and the handlebar grips are made of walnut. All the racing car safety equipment remains, including the carbon fiber safety cell, steel roll cage, five-point harness and fire extinguishing system. The owner also gets a few other extras. In addition to a custom-made car cover and a 1:8 scale model of the car, the customer will receive a matching checked bag filled with a Puma racing suit, gloves, shoes and underwear, as well as a Bell helmet.
Mercedes will only build 13 of these special editions. Each will retail for 1.03 million euros, or about $1.14 million at the time of writing.
